We’re starting off simple: Pick a classic mask that you’ve never made before, and make it. Caveat: it has to be one with one-layer plating, ie, it has just a one-layer faceplate, without any outline or stacked layers. As an example, El Santo and The Assassin have one-layer plates, since each facial feature (or plate) only has one layer (even though Santo has three separate plates, two eyes and his mouth, while The Assassin has a single one-layer plate.) Sin Cara or Solar have multi-layer plates: Sin Cara has silver eye plates on top of a red main plate which has a black outline plate, while Solar simply has red eye plates on a gold main plate. For the Week One Mask Challenge, you should make a mask that only has one layer of plating.

As always with MaskMaking March, you have one week to make your mask. We encourage everybody to post their masks to your online home of choice on Sunday, March 10 with the hashtag #MaskMakingMarch. We’ll repost everybody’s masks here on the website. (If we don’t see your mask and repost it, send us a link!) Next Sunday we’ll have a brand-new Mask Challenge for Week Two!
